Fabulous Flautists Listening Resources

The challenge is to actually stop, be still and just listen to the music

Listening is an essential part of any musical pursuit yet many times I find students get too caught up in the act of practising and theory that their listening skills end up being considerably underdeveloped. When I ask students who their favourite musicians are I am frequently meet with blank stares and shoulder shrugs.

Fabulous Flautists

So in order to help combat this major deficient in our musical education, I have developed a series of videos entitled ‘Fabulous Flautists’. Each video looks at the life and works of a flautist who I think every aspiring flute student should know about. They are designed to be both entertaining and highly informative.

Listening Resources

There is a small activity sheet that accompanies these videos. This is aimed at getting people to actively engage with some of the work of the flautists. It also hopes to foster critical thinking, self-awareness and artistic development. The worksheet is designed to accommodate students of all ages and abilities and can be treated as either a minor, 15-minute project or a massive in-depth exploration.

Below is the first edition of Fabulous Flautists and a PDF of the worksheet. If you have any questions or interesting thoughts then please leave a comment. I would love to hear your unique thoughts and insights.
